Who Should Attend?

The Leading from the Middle programme is designed for managers and individuals working in the middle zone of an organisations. This programme is especially valuable to high-potential mid-level to senior-level managers who need increased understanding of management and the many facets for the mastery of leading in the middle. The participants should have at least 5 to 7 years of managerial and supervisory experience in the middle zone of organisations or holding positions of responsibly within functional departments of public and private sector organisations. 

These include:

  • Experienced mid-to-senior level managers who work in the middle zone of their organisation, often with multiple peers and across functions.
  • Operational, group, departmental managers and directors with leadership accountability who have moved up into management and leadership without formal training.
  • High-potential mid-level managers new to general management.
  • Senior functional or technical specialists in transition to general management.
  • General Managers, regional and country managers and business unit leader.
  • Executives responsible for leading several management-level direct reports and senior professional staff.
  • Project manager working on large or complex projects across teams, functions or borders.

The Ideal Candidate

A participant for the Middle Management Programme must have demonstrated outstanding ability, leadership qualities and potential for growth. As the programme makes exceptional intellectual and emotional demands, participants should have an inquiring mind and capacity to think clearly. They must also have a high degree of adaptability and maturity to work and interact closely with other participants under considerable pressure. The participants are expected to move up to senior leadership positions in their organisation in the next 5-7 years.

Leading from the Middle seeks middle level leaders operating in the middle zones of organisations. Desired qualities of participants are:

  • Self-starters who are capable of working in a non-traditional and organic learning structure,
  • A genuine interest in developing leadership skills and competency and
  • A willingness to examine the "self"; key to self-awareness and self-discovery.
